Magic Bias

When a player favors one type of magic over the other her fairy companion will glow in the appropriate color to let her know.

I’m debating about whether I should reward or discourage bias. On one hand I have a vision of a fiery killing machine, Rambo player. On the other I have a vision of an angelic player fliting about the screen, gently displacing her enemies.

The problem of whether to allow both types of magic to become equally powerful during one play through of the game is one of gameplay balancing — I suspect to get the more powerful versions of abilities a player will have to focus on a few.

What I’m talking about are the other consequences of being biased one way or the other. Maybe NPCs will treat you differently depending on the bias?

Then again, I have no concept for what NPCs would even do beside talk to the player, since there isn’t really a concept of “items.”
