Tētere (Trumpet)
Aka, Pukaia, pūmoana, pūpakapaka, pūtātara, potipoti (there are differences between these, need to research more).
The Pukaia was used by the Māori people as a way of communication to warn their tribe about the coming of new people on their land.
The carving represents Manaias or Spirits and here the artist wanted to depict the spirits of the Māori’s ancestors.
