Kimokimo (Sidekick, Emotion)

Kō’s pixie friend is the sidekick and emotion character. She cannot speak, but acts something like Tinker Bell.

There’s a lot to cover with Kimo (kimokimo means “to twinkle”), but in a nutshell she has made a deal with Whiro, the god of destruction and evil, to be given leave from the underworld, in order to watch over Kō. She had to give up her body and voice to do so. Why did she do it? We learn later that Kimo the sidekick pixie, is actually Kō’s birth mother.

There is a somewhat complicated back story here that I haven’t quite figured out:

Kimo is part of some lineage that somehow protects or serves the god Tū. Kōtiro was supposed to take her place in that lineage, but was lost when Kimo somehow died — maybe Kimo died because of a beast or weather or something initiated by Tāwhiri. In any case, she was lost, and Kō was raised by the human iwi. That is what left Tū vulnerable to Tāwhiri these ~20 years later.
